'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Missing Young People Desperately Seek News After Alpine Inferno
The families of teenagers lost after a devastating inferno at a establishment in a Switzerland's ski resort are facing an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and requesting clues about their children via social media.
The inferno engulfed the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Circulated images depict the ceiling igniting as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Authorities have warned that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the those who perished of the disaster, which claimed the lives of 40 people and hurt another over a hundred. Officials stated on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with efforts ongoing to locate the remaining few.
In the interim, families and friends have been posting on social media to appeal for any news about their missing relatives who were at the bar that night.
Desperate Searches for the Missing
The whereabouts of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an appeal from his family.
The resident of a town near the city, told a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She added that some of his peers had been discovered with burns covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they experienced a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's foreign ministry has said that six of its citizens have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is dead, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him passion and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His mother explained that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and ended up at the bar.
